Wait for your Miracle

Scriptures:  Gen.21:14-21; Job 13:15; Prov.3:5-6; Matt.17:20; 18:3

Greetings “Fan”-tastic Passengers,

Have you ever felt like walking away and not waiting on the Lord to fulfill His promise in your life?  Does it seem like the circumstances of your season, are going totally in an opposite direction, to what God has promised you?  People choose to walk away from their miracle and God’s plan for their lives for different reasons.  However, one of the most common reasons as to why people rebel against God’s spoken Word over their lives, is impatience.  Consequently, by being impatient, you end up in a situation, where you distrust the Lord’s Word and ultimately, choose to walk away and not:  “Wait for your Miracle,” which is already heading in your direction.

As Hagar and her child Ishmael, were, “cast out” from the house of Abraham and Sarah, they wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.  There in the wilderness, they were reduced to great distress, as the provisions which Abraham had given them for the journey, were now exhausted and Ishmael was sick.  Consequently, like one who is under the power of the spirit of bondage, Hagar’s heart began to sink into deep despair and hopelessness, as she resolved not to wait on God for her miracle.  Instead, Hagar determined that her beloved son, Ishmael would soon die, and his future generation not seen, even though God had told her before he was born, that he should live to be a man, and that He would make of him a great nation.  Nevertheless, Hagar, like all other human beings, who live by their senses and not by faith and trust in God, quickly forgot God’s former promises, when the present providences seemed to contradict them. Consequently, Genesis 21:15-16 tells us that:  And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.  And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bow shot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.”

Notwithstanding, it is Interesting to note that, as Hagar lifted up her voice and wept, in the next verse we read that “God heard the voice of the lad.” Why did God hear the cries of Ishmael and not that of Hagar? Ishmael’s cry was filled with passion, such that it came into the ears of mercy, even as the Scripture says in Exodus 33:19 that God:  “…will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.”

The “Cry” Comparison Chart
Hagar’s Cry of Despair Ishmael’s Cry of Hope
It is guided by the senses, operates in the ordinary and, therefore, limits one’s spiritual vision It is guided by the spiritual senses, operates in the extraordinary, where one’s spiritual vision is enlightened.  It was Ishmael’s childlike faith which caused him to trust God to help him in the situation.
It is driven by the crippling arms of fear and despair into hopelessness It is driven by the arms of faith and hope in God’s faithfulness to His Word
It causes one to lean on impatience, distrust God’s promises and turn away from their miracle It causes one to trust in God’s promises and to experience God’s miracle of deliverance

Lord open my eyes to see my Miracle

Scripture in Gen.21:20 tells us that after God heard the cry of Ishmael, a divine intervention occurred:  “…God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.” It is amazing to note that, while Hagar became impatient at waiting for God to deliver her and her son from their harsh wilderness circumstance, and as she mourned in despair, that she did not take notice of this well of water, which she could have used to their comfort.  It was not until God miraculously, opened up her eyes, when she saw the well of water and she went and filled her bottle and also gave Ismael to drink.  Ultimately, Ishmael was prevented from dying, physically, as he was extraordinarily, resuscitated by the water from the well.

Indeed, there is a well of water, under the covenant of grace, which is available to all humanity, who will put their trust in Jesus Christ, as they sojourn through the wilderness of life.  Like Hagar, some may not be aware of it, that it is available for their comfort, until God miraculously, open their eyes to it.  Nevertheless, it is the same God who, in the fulness of time, will open their eyes to see their wounds, who will also open their eyes to see the well of water, which is the available remedy, for their thirst.
Concerning this well of water, the Scripture says:  “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14).   However, some people will go on in life, empty, wounded, thirsty and faint, instead of waiting and trusting in the Lord for their miracle of salvation (Psa.27:13-14).

God will perform miracles in the lives of those trust Him

Even though God had told Hagar, before Ishmael was born, that he should live to be a great man, nevertheless, when the present providences seemed to contradict God’s promises, and the heat from the desert sun parched her face, she quickly forgot them (Gen.17:20; 21:18).  In this respect, all human beings are like Hagar, who, when the going gets tough, we are apt to forget God’s promises to us and walk away from our blessing.  Therefore, we begin to live in fear and by our senses, instead of living by faith in God’s extraordinary realm.
While you are waiting on God for your miracle there are times when you must cry out to Him. Why?  Your faith, hope and trust must be fully resting in the faithfulness of God.  Therefore when you cry, let it not be a cry of one where your heart sinks into despair and hopelessness, like Hagar. Instead, let it be one which says, like Job:  “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him…” (Job 13:15a).  Therefore, even though the situations around you, do not seem to add up or to be leading you in the direction of the fulfillment of God’s promise for your life, in your heart, you must resolve to trust God and say with the writer of Proverbs:

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Prov.3:5-6).

A cry of complete assurance in God’s power to deliver and bring His promises to pass
  • Scripture in Job 13:15a tells us that, God’s servant Job, amidst his trying circumstances which he faced in his lifetime, said:Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him…”  In this, he was expressing his utmost confidence in and reliance upon God, for his deliverance.  This Job did, even when the things which God allowed to come upon him, such as, the loss of everything that he owned, including his children and his health, heightened the situation, such that it would appear as though, God Himself was against him, as an enemy (Job 23:8-10)
  • Job’s situation, is for our example and learning. Therefore, even when you and I hit “rock bottom,” so to speak, that is, when life hands us fiery and challenging circumstances, which may perplex us to even wonder if God is against us, we must believe with all our heart, that all these things which seem to be working against us, God will miraculously cause them to work together for our good (Jer.24:5; Rom.8:28)
  • Also, we must proceed and persevere in the way of our duty, even though it cost us all that is dear to us in this world, even life itself (Heb.11:35)
  • We must in faith and trust in God, “stagger not at God’s promises” but be like Abraham:  “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.”depend upon the faithful performance of God’s promise, even when all the ways leading to it are, as it were: “shut up “ (Rom.4:18)
  • < >We must continue to rejoice in our covenant keeping God, even when we have nothing else to rejoice in, and cleave to Him and His promises (Exod.19:4-6; Jer.1:12; Rom.12:12; 2 Cor.1:20)
A cry of complete trust in God
  • “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart”in order for us to experience God’s miracle in our lives, we must have a continual regard to His providence.  This means that, with all our heart, we must own and depend upon it in all our affairs of life, both by faith and prayer. Therefore, by faith, we must rest confidently, in God’s wisdom, power, and goodness, while assuring ourselves of the magnitude of his providence, to all the creatures and all their actions.
  • Therefore, as we love and serve the Lord, Scripture in Proverbs 3:5 says, by faith and in prayer, we must:“trust in the Lord with all our hearts.” we must believe that, in His wisdom, He is able to do what He will, what is best, and good, according to his promise, on our behalf
  • “…and lean not unto thine own understanding…” – this denotes a complete submission of one’s heart and a total dependency upon God’s Word as the authority for all truth concerning their life.  With our limited, broken and fallen understanding of the circumstances in which we find ourselves at times, it is impossible for us to bring about any type of deliverance from the situations into which we fall.  It is God alone, who is all-wise, powerful and good to all, who can resolve our affairs of this life, to work together for our good.  Therefore, we must be confident in God’s providence and not force it
  • “In all thy ways acknowledge Him…” - By prayer we must not only in our judgment believe that there is an over-ruling hand of God, ordering and disposing of us and all our affairs, but we must solemnly own it, and address ourselves to Him accordingly.
  • Therefore, we must ask His consent, in everything that we do and not only when the case is difficult and we do not know how to proceed
  • In addition, regarding enduring hardship, to the end of our earthly lives, the Scriptures gives us an example, as that of an athlete, who is in a race.In this, the Word of God, through Solomon, says:“…the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong…but time and chance happeneth to them all. In the New Testament, Jesus says:  “…he who endures to the end shall be saved.” ( Eccl.9:11; Matt.10:22; 24:13; Mark 13:13)
  • “…and He shall direct thy paths.” – As we trust God by faith and in prayer, with all our hearts and do not focus on the situations which surrounds us but trust His Word as having the final authority and the divine compass for our lives, as an encouragement, it is promised, “He shall direct thy paths.”   God will, therefore, make our way safe and prosperous, as He teach us to:  “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time” (Col.4:5)
  • God is not only present with His people at all times but He guides all His children by day and by night. Therefore, like the children of Israel, as they sojourned in the wilderness and faithfully followed the pillar of cloud and fire, symbols of God’s divine presence, we too must follow God’s guidance and we will find that; though He may lead us about in the paths ofthe wilderness of life, He leads us all the right way and will bring us to Canaan at last (Exod.13:21-22; Deut.31:6; Psa.99:7; Heb.13:5)
Friends, the fact that you cannot see a way out of your situation at the moment, does not mean that God cannot make a way. Furthermore, Jesus Christ fulfills all the promises of God to us, and all our confidence in God’s promises must come from our trust in Him (2 Cor.1:20).   Perhaps, like Hagar, in your impatience, you have walked away from your miracle and have stopped trusting in God, for your change to come.  God in His mercy, heard the cry of Ishmael and by so doing, He encouraged Hagar to believe again and received her miracle, right there in the arid wilderness.  Today, you too can cry out to Him in faith and by His mercy and grace, He will help you to start trusting Him once more.  Let us be encouraged and trust Him, with a childlike faith and believe that, with God, anything is possible (Matt.17:20; 18:3).  You must hope, pray and have trust in God and never turn away; but “Wait for your Miracle,” which is already heading in your direction.
Stay strong!  Stay encouraged!
