Full Coverage

Scripture:  Psa.121:6

Hello “Fan” – tastic Passengers,

As a brave pilgrim on earth, the child of God is continuously exposed to all sorts of evil, such as, “the terror by night; the arrow that flieth by day; the pestilence that walketh in darkness;” and “…the destruction that wasteth at noonday” (Psa.91:5-6).  Thankfully, our Keeper is not only on the throne looking down on us, but He is at our side to shield us from all harm. This does not mean that obedient believers never find themselves in difficulty or danger, or that they will never feel physical and emotional pain. Notwithstanding, in all of our journey on earth, our God who created the sun and the moon, is the Protector for His people; and He provides us with “Full Coverage” from  the harm and dangers of the day and of the night.

Background

In God's creative order, on the fourth day, the Bible tells us that He created the sun, moon, and stars (Gen.1:14-19).

Consequently, in an awesome fashion, into the expanse of the sky, and like a beautiful curtain, God placed the heavenly bodies and assigned them their work: to divide the day and night and to provide “signs” to mark off days, years, and seasons.

The Jews, due to their religious observances, rely upon the sun and moon, to know the times and the seasons, when the Sabbath arrived and ended, when it was a new month, and when it was time to celebrate their annual feasts (Lev.23).

In addition, before the invention of the clock and the compass, the activities of human life were closely linked to nature’s cycles, and navigators depended on the stars to direct them. Israel, therefore, would need the help of the heavenly bodies to direct their activities, and God would occasionally use signs in the heavens to speak to His sojourners on earth.

Furthermore, Israel was commanded not to imitate their pagan neighbours by worshipping the heavenly bodies (Exod.20:1-6; Deut.4:15-19; 17:2-7). On the contrary, they are to worship the true God who created the “heavenly host,” and the army of heaven, who does His bidding.

It is important that the born-again believer know and understand that, “The sun shall not smite thee” with his heat “by day nor the moon” with her cold and moisture “by nigh” (Psa.121:6). The sun and moon, were created by God our Father are great blessings to mankind (Gen.1:14-19).  Notwithstanding, because of sin, even the sun and moon can often be instruments of hurt and distemper to human bodies, that are constantly being exposed to them.  Nevertheless. By His favour God our Father interpose, so that none of His faithful pilgrims will suffer harm or damage by the harmful rays of the sun by day, nor the cold of the moon by night. In order to assure us of God’s blessing and protection upon His people, who are unto Him as a “vineyard,” the prophet Isaiah says, “I the Lord do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day” (Isa.27:3).

God will keep His people today, who sojourn earth, even as He kept Israel in the wilderness by a “pillar of cloud by day,” which screened them from the heat of the sun, “and of fire by night,” which probably diffused a welcoming warmth over the whole camp, so that they might not be intolerant by the cold and damp of the night.

Figuratively speaking, in order for any of God’s faithful sojourners of earth, not to be smitten by the harmful rays of the sun by day, nor the cold of the moon by night, it may be understood in the following manner: “Thou shalt not be hurt either by the open assaults of your enemies, which are as visible as the scorching beams of the sun, or by their secret treacherous attempts, which are like the insensible insinuations of the cold by night.”  It is the supernatural Protection of our Keeper and Father God, that will ensure the preservation of His people, until they arrive in heaven and are presented, “faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy” (Jude 1:24).

Finally, even though the child of God, while he/she sojourn earth, is continuously exposed to all sorts of evil, such as, “the terror by night; the arrow that flieth by day; the pestilence that walketh in darkness;” and “…the destruction that wasteth at noonday” our Keeper faithfully and lovingly shield us from all harm (Psa.91:5-6).  Furthermore, as obedient believers, we may at times, find ourselves in difficulty or danger, suffer the hurt of physical and emotional pain. Notwithstanding, in all of our journey on earth, our God who created the sun and the moon, promises to preserve us, by giving us  “Full Coverage” from  every harm and dangers of the day and of the night.
