Conquer that Mountain

"Positive Message:  Divers Cultures"
Scripture:  Deut.1:6-7; Zech.4:7

Hello "Fan”-tastic Passengers,

Have you ever been given an important task to complete, perhaps at your workplace, Church or otherwise, only to meet with some mountainous resistance, while trying to finish that task?

Zerubbabel was a Jewish leader who was appointed by the Persian government to return to the land of Israel and rebuild it as a Jewish country. While this was a blissful event that signaled the conclusion of the children of Israel’s 70-year exile, it also came with many challenges. The inhabitants in Israel at the time, who had been placed there by the Babylonians when they conquered Israel, were not so thrilled about the prospect of the Jewish people coming home. Therefore, they made things difficult for the returning Jews. They caused all kinds of anguish and bitterness. At one point, it looked as though Zerubbabel might have a sort of miscarriage, while trying to deliver the task.

Scripture in Zechariah 4:7a tells us that Zerubbabel responded to this encounter by declaring:  “Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain.” Here, Zerubbabel was speaking by faith, to all the negative situations, and obstacles which stood in his way, in an effort to hinder him from fulfilling his God-given vocation.  In the Caribbean, I grew up seeing massive mountains, which, indeed, when you look at them; they appear impossible  for one to conquer them, by climbing to the top. Mountains are tuhe symbol of obstacles in our paths.  Therefore, Zerubbabel looked at his gigantic challenges and said:  “I will conquer you. You will not prevent me from accomplishing my goals. I will walk all over you because to me, you are just a flat plain” Glory to God!

In Deuteronomy1:6-7 Moses reminded Israel, how when the Lord spoke to them at Mount Horeb, He told them to:  “Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.”  In essence, God was saying to His people, that they should be bold and not to get stuck and be defeated in life, by one seemingly mountainous situation.  Instead, they were to view every hindrance before them as a plain and by faith walk all over it.  God’s people must rise and conquer every mountainous situation, as you move on to claim new ground.

You must be encouraged and know that, God never gives you a problem that you cannot handle. Neither will He lead you to a mountain, over which you cannot triumph. The secret to get over those obstacles in life, however, is simply to advance, as you carefully put one foot in front of the other.  Indeed, when you look up at a mountain, it appears to be so steep and impossible to climb up to its summit.  Furthermore, the sight is so terrifying, it even seem as though it will fall on you. Nevertheless, in reality, as you climb up that mountain, by slowly and carefully putting foot in front of the other, you will find that it is usually very level. Avid mountain climbers will tell you that, the way to climb a mountain is by gradually, taking one step at a time, until suddenly, you have reached the summit.

Whatever mountains are standing in your way today, you need to confront them like Zerubbabel did and they will become as level ground before you. you will walk over them as plains, as you confidently rise to fulfill God’s plan for your life.
Stay strong!  Stay encouraged!
