Strangers and Foreigners

Scriptures:  Lev.25:23; Psa.90:12; Phil.3:20

Greetings 'Fan'-tastic Passengers,

As a believer in Jesus Christ, you are a stranger and a foreigner, in this barren land called earth.  While you are only passing through the land for a short time, your true citizenship, however, is in heaven (Phil.3:20). Consequently, your customs and goals by which you live your life, differs from that of those whom you live among in the world.

In Leviticus 25:23 the Word of the Lord to His people says, "...
for the land is mine, for ye are strangers and sojourners with me."  Therefore, as you sojourn the land with the Lord, He wants you to:
  • "Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation" (1 Peter 1:11-12)
  • "...Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy" (1 Peter 4:12-13)
  • Not to become caught up and earth bound with things which will not matter in the long run

In Psalm 92:12 it is written, “Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.”  When you know that your days are numbered, it gives you wisdom for living your life on a daily basis.  Therefore, when something bothers you, you can ask yourself this sobering question, "will this matter in the next 10 or 50 years?" If the answer is no, then you should consider letting it go and seek to embrace those things that matters in this life and the next, such as, those which are mentioned above. Remember, the earth is the Lord's, and you are just strangers and foreigners passing through it.  Therefore, let's not seek too much comfort in the things of earth, that don't really matter, at the end of the day.

Stay strong! Stay encouraged!
