The Miracle of Renewed Strength in the Lord

Scriptures:  Isa.40:31; Luke 18:1-8; 2 Cor.4:7-10

Greetings "Fan"-tastic Passengers,

The Lord is to be waited upon by all believers in Christ, for the manifestation of himself, and also for the performance of His promises. As the Old Testament saints waited for the first coming of Christ, so the New Testament saints now wait for His second coming, and for eternal glory and happiness.  Consequently, as the saints wait for the coming of Christ, the Lord will “renew their strength,” along their pilgrimage, in order for them to be able to perform their duty in service to Him, resist Satan’s temptations, and to endure afflictions and persecutions patiently, as they persevere unto the end.

In the Scripture Isaiah 40:31 the metaphor of the eagle, which represents strength, is used by the prophet Isaiah, to demonstrate how God supernaturally renews the strength of His people who wait upon Him. Judaism holds to a view that, for ten years the eagle ascends very high in the firmament of heaven, and approaching near to the heat of the sun, it falls into the sea, through the vehemence of the heat.  It then casts its feathers, and is renewed again, and its feathers grow, and it returns to the days of its youth. This action of renewing its strength, the eagle performs every ten years to up to a hundred.  In the hundredth year, however, it ascends according to its custom, and falls into the sea, and dies. So, then, this example proves to that, it is imperative for the people of God, along their earthly pilgrimage, to constantly wait upon the Lord because as they do so, God will "renew their strength."  With this renewal of strength, God will cause their heart, amidst their afflictions, to “mount up with wings as the eagles.”  Subsequently, when in times of trouble and God’s people are not strong enough to carry on, He, shows His strength to them by, as it were, carrying them on eagles’ wings, even as He did for Israel, when He brought them out of Egyptian bondage (Exod.19:4; Deut.32:11).

Scripture in 2 Samuel 1:23 speaks of Saul and Jonathan’s assertiveness in the pursuit of the enemy, while they were alive, as one which was bold and brave; as it says  that they were, “swifter than eagles and stronger than lions” (2 Sam.1:23). The miracle of the believer mounting up with wings as eagles, speaks of the swiftness and strength, with which the heart, through faith and hope, reaches within the veil of heaven itself, in worshipful expressions, concerning heavenly things.  Therefore, as a child of the Most High God, and like the eagle mounting up in the sky, you must with all boldness and bravery in the Spirit, allow your heart to mount up to the Lord in worship, as you wait on Him. While doing this, you will liberate yourself of every weight and sin which so easily besets you, as you, “mount up with wings as eagles.” (Psa.84:7; Mic.4:5; Heb 12:1).

Furthermore, as the believer in Christ wait patiently upon God in prayer, their strength is being renewed, as He now allows them to, “run and not be weary.”  This miracle of running and not being fatigued signifies haste in one’s heart to seek after God, as you, simultaneously, yearn to obey and walk in the way of His commandments.  The heart of this seeking individual, therefore, delight and pleasure, with cheerfulness in the commandments of the Lord and is never weary of them.

Another miracle of renewed strength in the Lord is that of the believer in Christ being able to, “walk and not faint.” Believers must be cognisant of the fact that, it is not in your own might or power that you are able to walk in the ways of God.  Instead, it is in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ that you walk, even as you have received him; and has been leaning on him and endeavour to trust in him all the way, until you receive the end of their faith, the salvation of their souls.  With this, the Lord will not allow you to “faint” under the heavy burden of sin, which you will encounter along your pilgrimage on earth.  Therefore, as strangers and pilgrims of earth, Christians under the Gospel dispensation, are all tried and tested by manifold temptations and fiery trials.  Consequently, some will soar upward, and dwell on high; others, though they cannot rise and "fly" so swiftly and strongly, yet they will "run" without becoming weary.  Others, though they can neither fly nor run, yet God will miraculously allow them to "walk" and not faint.  I encourage you, therefore, to be strong and believe to see the goodness of the Lord your God, in the land of the living, even as the psalmist says, I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (Psa.27:13).

Scripture in Luke 18:1-8 demonstrates how Jesus told a parable to His disciples, in order to strengthen their faith on the principle that, “men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Consequently, there was in a city a Judge, who feared not God, neither regarded man.  And there was also a widow in the same city, which was persistent in coming to the Judge, saying, “Avenge me of mine adversary.” For a while, the Judge was able to ignore the widow’s plea for mercy.  Nevertheless, because of her consistency in coming to him with the same plea, he said within himself:

“Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.”

Friends, God wants you to hasten and come to Him unfailingly with your plea for mercy, so that you may find grace to help in time of need. The prophet Isaiah asked the question, “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding” (Isa.40:28).  Consequently, by your continuous waiting upon the Lord, your God will rise up and avenge His own elect speedily, who cry day and night to him, though He bears long with them.  Therefore, take courage in the words spoken by the psalmist, which says: “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord” (Psa.27:14).

As earthen vessels of clay, which are easily broken and fragmented by the stormy and enormous circumstances of life, you phenomenally possess a magnificent treasure.  The apostle Paul emphatically describes the miracle of this treasure, which you have in earthen vessels, by saying:

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.  We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair.  Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;  Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body” (2 Cor.4:7-10).

Be strengthened today in your heart and know that God will come through for you, as the Scripture says: “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord” (Lam.3:26).

Stay strong!  Stay encouraged!
